I Tried to Make Amigurumi with the Worst Yarn Possible

Watch the YouTube video here! https://youtu.be/BGFTiZab_8Y?si=V3omfNNsaQrhVRLg (Will it Rat?)

I crocheted a rat using Red Heart Scrubby yarn! That yarn is made for dishcloths, and it has a rough texture so that it can scrub dishes clean. I decided I wanted to challenge myself by making an amigurumi project out of yarn that isn’t usually used for amigurumi, and my first thought was Red Heart Scrubby yarn! I went to Joann Fabrics and grabbed the color that I liked the most, yellow, and I went home and started recording.

Example of the yarn that I used for this rat.

I assumed that the yarn would be difficult to work with, because it would be hard to see my stitches and because the yarn itself would feel uncomfortable in my hands. I also thought that the yarn would distort the shape of the rat pattern that I designed, and that the rat would come out deformed. At first, when I made my first round, I thought my fears were coming true, but as time went on, and the more I got used to the yarn, I started to like it! The rat started to come out looking a lot better than I thought it would, I could see my stitches a lot more clearly than I thought I would, and the yarn did not feel as uncomfortable as I assumed it would.

The rat came out super cute! The texture of the rat may be unpleasant for some, but I actually like the texture! It’s rough, but in a soothing way. I posted pictures of the rat on Instagram, and people compared him to cheese. I decided to name him Mr. Shredded Cheese the Rat, and he will be for sale on this website in my next restock! Now I have to ask, should I make more rats made from this scrubby yarn? Do you think people would like to buy something like this?

Watch my YouTube video to see what crocheting the rat was like, and also for my first face reveal! In the video, I make it clear that it is the first of a series, which means I plan to make more rats out of different types of yarn, and even yarn-like material that isn’t quite yarn. Someone in my comments section suggested I use ribbon for my next video, and I am highly considering that! What do you think I should make my next rat out of? Comment below to suggest my next material!
